Nizam era bus stop collapsed in Hyderabad

The live example for the Nizam’s rich technology, the CBS bus stand no more visible from today onwards. The Gowliguda bus stand near Musi and infront of MGBS finally has come down crashing on Thursday morning.

No casualties were reported as the bus station was evacuated by the TSRTC four days before, anticipating its fall.  The beautifully designed parabolic steel structure came down crashing as the rusted pillars could not bear the burden anymore.

On Friday, 29th June, 2018, The iron pillars on the right side, near the bus ticket counter took a bend. The local stall owners noticed it and informed the officials immediately. After examining the structure, officials ordered to close the shops inside the hanger and diverted the city busses.

The Gowliguda bus stand, Which was popularly known as Central Bus station (CBS), built by Mir Usman Alikhan in the year of 1930. This was regarded as first bus station of Nizams State Road Transport Department. The Structure was designed by BUTLER & CO, U.S.A. Parts of this hanger was brought by sea from U.S.A and assembled at Gowliguda.

The Central Bus Station served as a main bus station in Hyderabad till the construction of  Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) at Imlibun in 1994. After that it was converted as city bus station.

Now, TSRTC and Government of Telangana planning to construct new model complex for at the same place.
